High Uinta Wilderness
Allsop Lake
The High Uintas Wilderness encompasses 456,705 acres and stretches nearly 60 miles east to west. It is a spectacular area with hundreds of glacier-formed lakes reflecting blue skies and Utah's highest peaks in clear, cold water. As an Utah local, the Uintas is a favorite! A Wilderness that is right in our backyard! So much room for exploration! Allsop is now a favorite of mine! Its less popular then other drainages in the area and we had the whole place to ourselves! 10 out of 10 would recommend!

NIGHT 1 : Allsop Lake
The road to get to the trailhead is a bit bumpy, washboard, etc. I made it fine in my Crosstrek! Make sure to have your Forest Pass or pay a day use fee. 10$ for 3 days. The trail itself is pretty mellow, with a gradual incline. Some fallen trees, muddy sections and tons of poop to navigate through. There's plenty of access to water since you will be crossing tons of small rivers. You're in the trees for the most part, but the trail does start to open up once you get into the basin. Beautiful meadows, mountain views and wildflowers. Lots of free range cattle are in the area as well.
Day 2 : Hike out
We spent the morning fishing and going for a cold plunge in the lake. The lake is pretty shallow, but there were some deeper areas where fish were jumping! We had the entire lake to ourselves! In my experience, the Uintas in July are very buggy, but I was pleasantly surprised that we weren't getting swarmed. Some horsefly bites but it wasn't too bad. Was able to make coffee and enjoy the view in peace with out getting eaten alive.
