Mount Timpanogos
Utah

Timp is the 2nd highest peak in the Wasatch Range towering at 11,752 feet. You get it all with this trail! Waterfalls, lakes, wildflower meadows, mountain goats and the BEST views Utah has to offer. One of the only places that has views like the Swiss alps and is a MUST summit! The summit is difficult, but has by far the biggest reward in the state! You won't regret it!

Route

  • 14 Miles out & back

  • 1 night/2 days

  • 8-12 hours

  • Hard

  • Dogs allowed (on leash)

  • Park at Aspen Grove Via Sundance Resort (6$ parking fee)

  • Start at Mount Timpanogos Trail

  • Night 1 : camp at Emerald Lake/bowl

  • Day 2 : Summit Timpanogos/hike out

  • When to go : Late June - September

  • Dogs are "allowed" but not recommended due to the mountain goat activity. A few dogs have been mauled and killed by the goats over the years, so if you must take them, keep them on a leash.

NOTE

You can do this in a day. This is a popular summit, so most people start at 3 am and hike out after summiting the same day. We just chose to take our time and enjoy the view!

The route from Aspen Grove is the most scenic way to go, you don't want to miss the many waterfalls along the way!

DAY 1 : EMERALD LAKE VIA ASPEN GROVE

Our hike from the Aspen Grove parking lot was absolutely stunning! So MANY waterfalls with lush foliage and wildflowers everywhere. It was truly a magical experience. Your on an incline for hours, good thing it was gorgeous and full of distractions cause my quads were on fire the whole time. It is straight uphill until you get to the bowl. We visited 3 waterfalls on the accent, and then started our climb to Emerald lake. Just as we reached the bowl, some weather started to roll in. Rain and then hail began to pour down so we hunkered down in the shed near Emerald lake to wait out the storm. Unfortunately, the weather was getting worse, so our plans to camp at the lake went out the window. There is no shelter or coverage in the bowl FYI. A break in storm revealed a stunning rainbow, with epic views of Timp and the lake! But that was short lived and lighting and thunder came crashing down, and I've never bean so scared or exposed on a mountain like that. We hiked out with only our headlamps and lightning strikes lighting the way. It was sketch. We look forward to attempting the summit again soon!
